Since I just started posting yesterday, you are probably aware of the amazing breakthrough in women’s rights in Saudi Arabia. As of late January 2008, women that are not accompanied by a male “guardian” are allowed to stay in a hotel or rent an apartment by themselves. Amazing. Because of strict Islamic law, women were not allowed to stay alone in said places. Here we are in 2008 and after so much pressure from international groups, the Islamic police are giving way to this.
There are still some reports of women arriving at King Fahd airport late in the evening trying to get a hotel room only to be turned away or asked to provide a permission slip from the Islamic police.

It is indeed a crazy world. It is interesting that this would be considered an Amazing Breathrough isn’t. I mean how f’d up are we as humans to consider the the grant for such freedoms a “breakthrough”. People should be left alone, free from these ridiculous stupid islamic laws and restrictions.

@ Oscar, I could not agree more. Imagine the advancements they could make as a culture had they not repressed the women of their country.

Yeah, its amazing. Sam Harris pointed out either on The End of Faith, or on one of the debates, (I forgot where). That Spain translates more books each month, than the entire muslim world has written/translated since the 7th century.
Talk about hindering progress!
Oh and on a side note, I’m glad other people voice their opinions on these matters. Thanks for putting up a site like this up. Good stuff.
On the topic of Women and islam, there is a book I’ve added to a reading list I have going. It is by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, from the bits and pieces I’ve read, her book, appropriately titled Infidel is great. The scariest part of this is that she is a target of the stupid muslim idiots, her life is actually in danger each day that you and I go to work, or have fun with our kids and loved ones, simply because of these dogmatic, idiotic, inhumane and ridiculous senseless beliefs.

If you read the circular carfuly you see that it asks the women to show an approved ID ,, Most of women I know only have a Photo Copy of husband or father id, and the Hotel automaticaly use this as an execuse to say NO
