In a recent article on CNN, it’s reported that nearly half of American adults are leaving the faith tradition of their upbringing. They are either changing religious affiliation altogether or abandoning their faith completely.
The article goes on to state that one in four adults ages 18 to 29 claim no affiliation with a religious institution. The Catholic Church has lost more members than any other faith. While the article attributes this to affiliation swapping, I believe it has more to do with the church being more of a haven for child abusers than people deciding to change affiliations. The survey also found that interest in non-denominational churches is increasing.

Perhaps a beacon of hope for a wave of change. I think that the generation that is in school right now and getting out of school, or as you say the article points out, the 18-29 year olds, can definitely change this world in ways we never imagined. (there is no link to the article)
They have been raised, and grown up in a very global society. Easy access to independent media, and opinion make it very easy for people to see through the myths and falsehoods that religion often brings to our lives.
I hope that soon, an article like this one won’t have the mention of non-denominational congregations increasing. Not because of censorship but because we have come to the realization that faith and religion should not be the cornerstones of our lives.
