I was involved in an accident on the 405FWY and Sand Canyon about 2 weeks ago. Minor fender bender. Yes it was my fault. I rear ended the car in front of me at about 10-15 mph. Minimal damage to my car and minimal damage to her bumper (her car was worth $1100.00 so the insurance company paid her off because the replacement value of the bumper exceeded the value of the car). The girl I hit calls me on the phone about 2 days after the accident and makes small talk. I refer her to my insurance company because that’s what they are for. She continues to call me several times in the week following asking me if I could help get her a new job? Are “they” hiring? “I really need a job with better benefits”, I’d love if you could help me out”, “I have a small son and we don’t have health insurance”, “I need to make better money” and so on… Well I kinda feel bad for her and tell her I will see what I can do. She sounds grateful when I give her this response. Here I am thinking “oh… poor girl that stinks” Ha! Not even 24 hours later I received a call from my adjuster informing me I was being sued (well my insurance). What!?!?! She wasn’t even hurt. Sure, throw her a bone for pain and suffering..but SUED!?!?! Now she is singing the “my neck hurts” song. I am sure she is going to try and milk it for all its worth. This make me sick… People who try and “come up” in this world by slapping frivolous lawsuits down on people to “get ahead” are just wrong. Heck, I was a little sore the next day too. Even if the accident was reversed I wouldn’t think about suing as long as the repairs to my car were handled and I wasn’t hauled away on a gurney bleeding to death. Give me a break. Well… I believe in karma, so this girl better watch out. What goes around comes around. I hope she buys herself some self-respect and morals with her “winnings”. As far as helping her get a job…I am going to inform her she needs to get a life first.

Karma schmarma… this is one of those times you wished you had recorded the conversations. What a terrible situation! All these frivolous lawsuits coming up everywhere. It makes me wonder though, is it the fault of the lawyers that will actually pursue these cases? or of the person suing?
I don’t know who is to blame but it does need to stop. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Oscar, I will. I think its a 51% plaintiff 49% lawyer ratio. The plaintiff usually has to take the first step to call the lawyer! I dont know for sure but it sucks.
