Today in the news, I see that Starbucks will be terminating their deal with T-Mobile to provide wireless access to the patrons of Starbucks and switching to at&t. This was a pay-per-use service that, in my opinion, was very good. A service that I have used several times in the past. A couple of my friends have purchased the “all you can eat” plan and are very pleased with it.
One benefit to the switch is the fact that anyone visiting their local Starbucks will be given two free hours of Wi-Fi. Subsequent usage can be purchased for about (USD)$2 per hour or (USD)$20 per month for an unlimited plan. Existing at&t broadband subscribers get to use the service for free. Not a bad deal at all.
While I am still finding out all the details, overall this seems like a great deal for the consumer.

check one more to the count of those that “have purchased the ‘all you can eat’” plan. I’ve had mine for some time now, then this comes out… I don’t know exactly how it will affect me, but it would suck to come in to starbucks and know that I paid for a connection that is now free.
If the starbucks around me move on this new change soon, then I’ll see about canceling my account. But then that for me raises another question… with the free plan, if I go to one starbucks for 2 hours in the morning and later I go again, do you get another 2 free hours? Or is this a stirct 2hours/day? who knows.

Latest I’ve heard is that at&t will be honoring the contract that existing T-Mobile users are under. I don’t think you will lose that. The good news however is that once your T-Mobile contract expires you can get the same plan for about $10 cheaper with at&t.
