I have been reading and hearing a lot about how our current economy is as bad as it was (some may argue worse) than the 80’s. While I was only a kid at the time, I don’t remember my parents stressing about how things were. In fact, I would think everything was just great during this time. I guess it’s a testament to how my parents raised us by keeping adult things in the adult world. Aside from that fact I sent my father an email asking about this time and his reply was enlightening. I had to look up some of the references he makes but I appreciated his candor. I thought his (unedited) reply was worth the next post.

Not in our family. Reagan was president then and it was a recession he Ron Reagan inherited from Jimmy Carter. Carters bad management of the Iranian take-over of the American embassy and other f__k- ups during his (Carters) administration is the prime cause why your mom decided to become a naturalized US citizen. Mom wanted the right to vote idiots like Carter out of office. (” Breznev lied to me”) a classic Carter quote.

Reagan did inherit a recession from Carter, but pushed for lower taxes for all to pull us out of it. It worked and if you
recall we bought our home in 1986 during the second Reagan administration. We hear a lot of Liberal Left comments negative
comments about Ron Reagan, but he and his policies were responsible for the downfall of the Soviet Union and the removal of the Berlin wall that happened during the George Herbert Walker Bush presidency. During the Carter administration we had gasoline shortages and had to line up based upon whether or not our car license plate was odd or even numbered. I was born when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president 1941 (Dem.) WWII, he was followed by Harry Truman WWII and the Korean War (Dem) and after Dwight David Eisenhauer (Rep.) we had John F.

Kennedy and LB Johnson Vietnam War (Dem.) and Nixon, & Gerald Ford both (Rep.) before the man I consider to be the absolute worst president in my lifetime Jimmy Carter (Dem.). Since Kennedy who I liked in the 60 era the Democrats have become so left leaning and so Socialistic that I cannot see me ever voting for any Democrat. The main focus of the Dems. is to tax you and let the Government help everybody and solve all the problems using your Money as they the Dems, see fit. Kennedy was very much like Reagan and Bush who want you to keep more of your own hard earned money (Tax cuts) to spend how YOU see fit, and strong on Defense. If I remember correctly the only time we ever pulled you boys out of school during a normal school day was the very happy day we attended your moms Naturalization Swearing in Ceremony in downtown San Francisco.

I feel that most voters who make an effort to study the various positions of the candidates are more centrist than EXTREME Right or Left, but if you or anybody believes that our government is going to give you a better life with your tax dollars, those believers are sadly mistaken. I tend to be center-right and not as extreme as Rush Limbaugh but for sure in my mind the Leftists in control of todays Democratic Party (George Soros types) will ultimately damage our country.

Sorry for being so long-winded, but if you recall that Ron Reagan was originally a Democrat who stated ” I did not leave the Democratic Party it left me”.
